Klaus Teuber, Creator of Popular Board Game Catan Has Died at Age 70

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the Teuber family announces their beloved husband and father Klaus Tuber passed away at 70 on April 1, 2023, after a short and serious illness," said the statement posted on the German-language Catan website.

Catan is a popular multiplayer board game with over 20 million players worldwide. It was developed by Klaus Teuber and first published in 1995 in Germany. Players in the game have the role of settlers that build their own colonies and can trade or acquire resources. The goal is to grow their settlements as much as possible.

How To Play Catan?

The game board represents the Island Catan, and consists of different hexagonal tiles. The players use resource cards to build roads and cities on the tiles to grow or upgrade their settlements, or to get more resources.

Build Your Own Colonies In Catan

Players can use five resource cards to build their colonies which may represent wool, lumber, grain, ore and brick. They gather resources by building roads to different hexagonal tiles, which gives different resource cards.

How Do Players Win Catan?

In the game, the players create and grow their settlements which can also be upgraded to cities. For each settlement, players earn one point and for each city they earn two points. They gain victory points as their settlements grow and the first player to reach 10 points is crowned as the winner.

Catan is available in over 40 languages for users to play globally. Some of these languages include Japanese, German, English, Spanish, Dutch and French.
