Flight Attendant Explains Why We Really Shouldn't Wear Shorts On A Plane

For every job that exists, there's at least a little bit of insider information about it that can come in handy.

Whether we're talking about dark secrets or just tips we never would have considered, it can definitely pay off to listen to those who work in various sections of the service industry.

And as one man's viral video makes clear, that's particularly true when it comes to flight attendants.

On July 28, a flight attendant named Tommy Cimato uploaded a TikTok outlining a list of things passengers should never do on an airplane.

In a couple of cases, these weren't always things we flat-out shouldn't do so much as things we shouldn't forget or be afraid to do.

For instance, one of the tips was "don't forget to drink water" — apparently it's best to have about 16 ounces for each flight — while another was "don't be afraid to let a flight attendant know if you're feeling sick."

Meanwhile, another was "don't be afraid to let a flight attendant know if you're feeling sick."

However, the rest of the list seemed to carry a similar theme.

As far as Cimato was concerned, the common things we're advised against doing came from the fact that we don't know how many other people came into contact with certain parts of the plane before we did.

For instance, he told us to push the button that flushes the toilet with a napkin or a tissue instead of using our bare hands.

As he put it, "It's honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross."

And that brings us to why he's advising us not to wear shorts on airplanes.

He said that you never know how clean your seat and other parts of the plane are going to be.

In his words, "So if you have pants, you're going to have less germs."

And apparently, this is a particular problem with the plane's windows.

So much so that when he mentioned the advisory against shorts, Cimato said, "Don't or try not to wear shorts when you're on an airplane, it's the same thing as the window."

And what's so wrong with the window? Well, if we sleep our rest our heads on it, we're not only sticking our faces where so many others have, but we're also taking a big chance that children haven't wiped their hands or "other things" on it.

As if there weren't already enough reasons to be nervous about flying.

And unfortunately, he said that's not the only problem because that just accounts for the least deliberate actions.
