Mom Faces Backlash After Giving Only One Of Her Kids A Gift Worth $2 Million

If you're a parent, you probably already know it's never a good idea to favor one child over the other.

It's always obvious and it leads to some seriously hurt feelings. So when one mom only gave one of her kids a gift worth $2 million, well, you can probably guess what happened next...

Cue the family drama!

After causing a serious rift in her family, this mom took her dilemma to the "Am I The Asshole" community on Reddit.

She began by sharing that she and her husband have four kids: Henry (35m), Lisa (33f), Elizabeth (30f), and Shawn (28m). Before Henry was born, they purchased a six-bed/seven-bath house for little money.

But like most empty-nesters, the Redditor and her husband decided to sell their house and buy a condo on the beach.

While Henry and Lisa live the closest to them, it's Henry they're closest emotionally, too. That's because he and his wife, Abigail, invite them over for brunch every Sunday to spend time with them and their two young daughters.

They also go over to the parents' house often and even go on vacations together.

Meanwhile, their daughter Lisa talks to her parents once per week on the phone and she sees her parents less frequently.

"Henry and Abigail currently live in a 2 bedroom house but Abigail recently found out she's pregnant and they're looking for something bigger," the mom wrote.

She continued:

"They asked us to help them with house hunting, but housing prices have drastically increased since we bought our house and they wouldn't be able to afford anything more than 3 bedrooms, even though they both have good jobs."

Here's where the dilemma comes in.

"We offered to sell them our house for the price of the house they were going to buy and they were elated," she wrote.

They even drew up a contract and have a payment plan in place. This leaves them with enough money from the sale to buy the condo they wanted.

Win-win, right? WRONG.

Cut to her daughter, Lisa, finding out. "Lisa and I were talking today and she asked how selling the house is going and I told her that we're selling it to Henry and Abigail," the mom wrote.

"She was enraged when I told her."

Lisa was upset that her parents didn't offer to sell their house to her, too.

She said that she's looking for a bigger place too — a fact that the mom said she never told them about.

"I told her that Henry and Abigail need the space more because they have kids and she's single and childless."

"Then she started to yell at me for 'discriminating against her' because she's single and childless," she wrote.

"AITA for selling my house to my son and not my daughter?"

If you're sitting here screaming "YES!" you're not alone. Reddit quickly let her know she's in the wrong.

"YTA for giving 1/4 of your children 2 million dollars and 3/4 of your children nothing," Redditor SlinkyMalinky20 wrote.

As 1/3 siblings, I'd be upset, too!

"We all know who the golden child is here and the three all know this now for sure they do not have any value with their parents," another wrote.

Another Redditor pointed out that the parents' couldn've helped all of their kids.

"They could have sold it for 3mil, keep 1mil to buy the beach condo and split 2mil between 4 kids, unless they have extra 6m to give the rest of the kids. Family of 3 doesn't need 6 bedroom house," they wrote.

While the parents meant well, Redditors pointed out that this generous act slighted their three other kids.

Some, however, agreed with the OP, writing, "We're all adults and my parents are under no obligation to give me ANY of their money."

Now it's your turn! Was the mom in the wrong for gifting her son the $2 million home? Let us know in the comments!
