TV shows are a lot like the vegetables in your fridge; they're best when consumed quickly so as to prevent them from spoiling. Consistency across seasons is what all series aim for but very few manage to pull it off.

There are, however, the exceptions that prove the rule — the true white whales of the television world. I'm here today to discuss just that and examine a collection of TV shows that never once dipped in quality.

'The Sopranos'

HBO | HBO

The Sopranos was one of HBO's earliest flagship series and is considered by many to be one of the greatest television shows ever made. It boasts a robust and eclectic cast, with Emmy-worthy performances from James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, and many more.

For those with a penchant for mafioso-type TV, you're seldom going to find a greater contender for the crown than The Sopranos. The storylines only got more complex as time went by, the character development more in-depth, and the acting skillset more profound.

'Schitt's Creek'

Dan and Eugene Levy were able to turn a proverbial Little Engine That Could into an Emmy-winning masterpiece. Schitt's Creek manages to capture the essence of small-town Canadiana and present it in a manner that is both lovable and hilarious. It is not very often that a sitcom can have you rolling with laughter one minute and then bursting into tears the next, but Schitt's Creek's whimsy and affable self-confidence manage to do just that and more. This series could have gone on forever and that still wouldn't have been long enough.

'Sons Of Anarchy'

Combine the best elements of William Shakespeare's Hamlet and disperse it with a little black leather and motorcycle mayhem and you've got the winning recipe that helped to make Sons of Anarchy a timeless classic. With each progressive season, SOA only managed to become darker, bloodier, and more deeply entrenched in MC lore and the world of organized crime. It is without a doubt one of the most ruthless shows ever created and was absolutely fearless when it came to the killing of integral and beloved characters.

Spoiler alert: I'm still not over Opie's death.

'Breaking Bad'

Vince Gilligan is a lot like the famed Greek mathematician, Archimedes. All he needed was five seasons and he was able to move the world. Breaking Bad's success is owed in no small part to the once-in-a-generation performance of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul's painful empathetic portrayal of Jesse Pinkman. Together, these two formed a truly dynamic duo, the likes of which could rival any to have come before it. Everything from the cinematography; editing, right down to the music was a reflection of true artistry. In short, Breaking Bad is a master class in television.
