Amanda Bynes' Parents Won't Move Forward with Another Conservatorship

Amanda Bynes was placed on a psychiatric hold after she was found walking naked near Downtown Los Angeles early on Sunday morning. According to TMZ, she flagged down a car and told the driver she was "coming down from a psychotic episode" before calling 911 herself. 

She was then taken to a nearby police station, where a mental health team determined that a psych hold was necessary. Typically, these holds last only 72 hours but can be extended if necessary.

In 2022, Amanda Bynes' nine-year conservatorship ended after a judge terminated the guardianship arrangement, stating that Bynes had done everything the court had asked. In 2023, Bynes' parents decided against seeking another conservatorship after a recent psychiatric episode.

Amanda Bynes has faced various mental health issues throughout her career,  including struggles with addiction, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. As a result, she has been placed under psychiatric holds, entered rehab facilities, and was placed in conservatorship under the care of her mother. 

However, in recent years, Bynes has worked towards improving her mental health and has expressed a desire to live independently and pursue her passions.

Despite their decision, it is reported that Amanda's parents are deeply concerned about their daughter's well-being.

What impressed Lynn and Rick Bynes was that Amanda was self-aware enough to recognize she was in trouble and flag down a car for help.

According to a source with direct knowledge, Lynn and Rick Bynes are not viewing Amanda's recent psychotic episode as a reason to put her under another conservatorship.

The source believes Amanda's behavior on Sunday was an anomaly, as she had been living independently in her own house and taking cosmetology classes.

Amanda was in conservatorship for almost a decade, starting in 2013, while struggling with her mental health.

Last week, a California judge renewed Amanda's legal conservatorship, which will be divided between a professional private fiduciary and Bynes' mother, Lynn.

Amanda's attorney, David Esquibias, will work with the private trust firm to ensure that Amanda's material needs are better handled. His goal is to get her adequate permanent housing.

Currently, Amanda needs a stable residence or means to rent an apartment.

The next hearing in Amanda's conservatorship case is not scheduled for February 2015.

Amanda's ex-fiancé, Paul Michael, claimed to Page Six exclusively that Amanda had been "off her meds" in the time leading up to her recent episode.

However, Amanda's family denies these claims. Her attorney states that Lynn and Rick Bynes are "very proud" of how Amanda has been doing recently and continue loving her very much.

Amanda's attorney also denied reports that Rick and Lynn Bynes are afraid of Amanda or that the actress has made "death threats" against them.

Amanda recently canceled a public appearance, fueling speculation about her mental health.

A 5150 hold is a legal action from the CA Welfare and Institutions Code that allows a qualified officer or clinician to confine someone against their will for 72 hours which can be extended.

During this time, the person will be fully assessed for their mental health status.  Amanda is currently hospitalized and will likely receive care for several days.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Amanda Bynes, but for now, her future will likely involve ongoing care and monitoring to ensure her well-being and stability. 

Her recent psychiatric episode serves as a reminder of her challenges with her mental health. Still, her parents' decision not to pursue another conservatorship suggests they have faith in her ability to manage her life with proper support and resources.
