Selena Gomez Confesses Her 'Biggest Mistake' Involves Her 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Co-Stars

Selena Gomez rose to stardom when she played teenage wizard, Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series, Wizards of Waverly Place. The singer recently appeared on the podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod. The podcast was hosted by her former Co-stars, Jennifer Stone, and David DeLuise.

During the podcast, Gomez shared that her biggest mistake was losing touch with her Wizards castmates. The actress continued that she took them as a second family. Gomez recalled bonding with everyone on the show, while not knowing that she had met everyone "I needed to be in my life."

According to Decider, the star noted that it felt safe. Addressing the podcast hosts, the Same Old Love crooner noted, "You guys genuinely loved me, and that’s all I could have asked for, the unconditional trust and bond we had, I miss so much."

Stone and DeLuise also confirmed the unique bond during the show. Stone acknowledged that it was indeed a special time in all of their lives, while DeLuise relayed that it was quite "rare" n the entertainment business to find people one could bond with, in such a way.

The TV star went on by relaying that she felt "the happiest I've been in my whole life" on the longtime show. When asked what her biggest regret was, Selena Gomez noted that it was how she lost touch with her fellow stars.

During the podcast, the Monte Carlo actress also explained why she lost touch with her castmates. Gomez shared that she felt ashamed of the decisions she made after the show. The singer added that she did not want her castmates to see her in the state she was in.

The Spring Breakers actress further shared that she was terrified that they would tell her the truth. Also, she lost touch with them because she did not want to let them down. At this point, Stone chipped in that she always felt like they stopped being friends because she did not tell Gomez what she wanted to hear. Gomez continued that she loved her castmates in a way she never loved anyone else. 

The show, Wizards of Waverly Place was set in Manhattan. It was about Alex Russo and her brothers, Max and Justin who were wizards. In the show, the siblings must master their powers or risk losing them forever. The trio was taught their wizardly lessons by their father, Jerry. However, Jerry gave up his powers when he married their mom, Theressa who had no powers. The trio later got into tricky situations while navigating teen challenges. The show ran in 2007 and aired its final episode in 2012. 

Since the final episode of Wizards of Waverly Place aired, the cast moved on to new projects. Here is what the castmates did after the show. Gomez continued acting and starred in other fascinating projects like Only Murders in the Building. She became Disney Royalty starring in more shows like Sonny With A Chance, and Princess Protection Program.

She guest-starred on shows like Hannah Montana, and The Suit Life Of Zack & Cody. She also took interest in her music career and has been flourishing in it. While thriving in he career as an entertainer, she has also ventured into business, picking up a career as a beauty boss.

Selena runs her Rare beauty cosmetic line, which is a vegan, all-inclusive, and cruelty-free lifestyle line. David Henrie who played Justin Russo continued in the movie industry. he went on to portray Luke Mosby in How I Met Your Mother which aired from 2005 to 2014. He also got married to Maria Cahill in 2017.

The couple has two children and in 2021, announced they were expecting a third child. Henrie has expanded his career in Hollywood into writing and directing. He made his directorial debut in 2020, in the movie, This Is the Year. Onto other castmates, Jake T. Austin who played Max Russo, the youngest Russo kid, continued his acting career.

He went on to star as Jesus Foster in ABC's The Fosters. He pulled his weight in philanthropy with non-profits Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club. Austin also had a stint on Dancing with the Stars.

Jennifer Stone is another castmate of the Disney series who played Harper Finkle. Stone was quite famous on the show for perfectly portraying harper's eccentric sense of style. She left acting to study psychology in college when she turned 20. However, she was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and changed her major to nursing. She also helped to fight against COVID-19 in 2020.

In between thriving as a health worker, Stone also dabbles in Hollywood from time to time. Maria Canals-Barrera who played Theresa Russo now has two teenage daughters and has voiced different animated shows. She has also guest-starred on shows like The Big Bang Theory, and Fuller House.

David DeLuise who starred as Jerry Russo is now an acting coach. He was one of Disney's favorite dads, and after the show, he played the father figure in Netflix's "Pup Star. Gregg Sulkin is still acting. Also, Bridgit Mendler is now an accomplished academic. She was once the lead actor in another Disney favorite, Goodluck Charlie.

While Gomez is doing great career-wise, there have been rumors of major drama on social media. The drama has been between Gomez, Bieber, and Jenner. Hailey and Gomez have long been subjects of internet drama since their romantic ties to Justin Bieber. In early January, Gomez was body-shamed.

This happened after photos of the Come & Get It, singer, in a swimsuit was published. Shortly after the incident, Hailey shared a TikTok showing her and Jenner lip-syncing, "God's timing is always right." The video was deleted when people called them out for mocking Gomez. Hailey later also shared it was not directed to anyone. 

That was not the only social media drama. Gomez recently became the most followed woman on Instagram, dethroning Jenner. The actress also posted photos and videos on the internet, joking that she accidentally over-laminated her brows. After the post, Jenner shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Hailey where they zoomed in on their brows. After a series of other events, Gomez recently took to Instagram to announce that she was taking a break from social media. She added that she was 30 and "too old for this."
