In a Yahoo interview, the "Mary Poppins" legend discussed aging head-on and listed four factors that he believes keep him vibrant and young.
Van Dyke first gave credit to his good genes for the fact that he feels great at 97 years old.
The actor also claimed that his 51-year-old wife, Arlene Silver, played a significant role in making him feel young.
“Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me [helps],”The actor gushed about his 11-year partner.
However, the 97-year-old actor revealed his third secret to be a "Positive attitude," which he attributes to having gotten from his lovely wife. He added that a positive attitude was key to keeping healthy.
Last but not least, the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" star stressed the value of exercise for people of all ages, particularly older people.
“I wrote a book called ‘Keep Moving‘: I still go to the gym three days a week and work out,” he shared.
“I advise everybody to do that, because that’s what ages people — it’s just a stiffening up and not exercising their muscles and their lungs,” he added. “Exercise is the answer.”
The actor was captured on camera the previous year leaving his neighborhood gym in California looking trim and stylish with his wife.
He told Closer in 2019:
"I've always been an exerciser and still am I get in the pool and exercise. At my age, they say to keep moving. Put me on solid ground and I’ll start tapping.”
Van Dyke admitted that he uses a treadmill, lifts weights, and participates in water aerobics.
He and Silver first met at the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he was 81, and she was 35.
Before their relationship developed into something romantic, the two initially became friends.
The couple went viral with a romantic Valentine's Day video to commemorate their 10th wedding anniversary back in February 2022, but they still looked in love and like newlyweds as they enjoyed a stroll in the sunshine.
The celebrity was initially concerned that his much-younger spouse would be viewed as a gold digger by fans, but he was relieved to learn that his worries were unfounded when no one expressed this opinion.
In a 2013 interview with HuffPost, Van Dyke said that when he married a woman "half" his age, everyone thought he was "crazy."
"But she is just an absolute angel. She sings and dances so there's a lot of that going around the house. She's a great cook," the actor said.
He also made some comments on their age difference.
"And the age difference hasn't been a problem at all. Emotionally I'm about 13. She's very, very wise for her age so I'm just having the time of my life," he added.
Van Dyke also discussed how Brits had criticized him for the cockney accent he adopted for his role as Bert the Chimney Sweep in "Mary Poppins" in another section of his Yahoo interview.
“Americans really weren’t too critical of it,” he stated. “But the British have never let me off the hook to this day about my terrible cockney accent.”
Although, Van Dyke received praise from the show's judges for his recent performance on "The Masked Singer."
During the big reveal, Nicole Scherzinger was star-struck when she realized Gnome was the iconic actor.
