Forensic Expert Says He Would Have Changed His Search Strategy

Peter Faudling, a forensic who assisted Lancashire Police in searching the River Wyre for Nicola, suggested changing his search strategy if he had known important details about the missing woman's state of mind.

Inside The Police's Recent Update

The police revealed on Wednesday that they were treating Nicola as a high-risk missing person because of specific vulnerabilities. A few hours later, they thought it necessary to clarify what they meant.

Nicola Struggled With Alcoholism

According to the police, Nicola had significant issues with alcohol brought on by ongoing struggles with menopause. While it was important for the police to share the details, Peter wasn't pleased it came late.

What Happened To Nicola?

On January 27, 2023, the 45-year-old missing mother was walking her dog along the River Wyre in St. Michaels when she suddenly disappeared. The authorities were alerted, and a search for Nicola began.

A Search For Nicola Begins

They spent 72 hours scouring an area of water near where Nicola's phone was found on a bench. While at it, the police investigators worked on a hypothesis that the missing woman accidentally fell into the water but was of sound mind.

Search Expert Didn't Believe Nicola Was In The River

Due to the report on Nicola's sound mind, Peter strongly believed the missing woman could not be in the water. However, when news broke that she indeed had issues, the diving expert was disappointed.

Peter Changes His Stance

During a chat on TalkTV, Peter told Jeremy Kyle, "If she [Nicola] had jumped in, intended to take her own life or walk off, that would change my whole plan." He added, "She could have ended up in the sea."

Peter Calls The Police's Decision Disgraceful

Later, Peter made it clear that the police's decision to withhold such vital information from him was outrageous, further noting that it was disgraceful and someone needed to take responsibility for it.

An Unnamed Expert Shares His Thoughts

Meanwhile, an unnamed search expert has said it could take up to 100 days to find a body in a river. While advising the police during a chat with The Times, the expert also pointed out that sometimes, the body is never found.

The Expert Gives River Analysis

According to the expert, on the day Nicola went missing, the river flowed at a rate of 3.8 cubic meters per second. The expert said the force was enough to carry the missing woman over the weir and downstream.

The Police Are Open-Minded

While search experts continued to look for the missing mom, the Lancashire police, in a detailed public briefing, said they had an open mind, but there was no evidence that anyone was involved. The police are still working on the hypothesis that Nicola fell into the water while walking her dog.

Stella Creasy Questions The Police

In the wake of the new update about Nicola's state of mind, Labor MP for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy, has condemned the police's decision to reveal details about Nicola's mental disposition.

Stella Says The Decision Is Troubling

In a tweet, Stella confessed that disclosing such details about a missing person's private life, with no evidence that it was helping in finding her, was troubling.

More Details About Stella's Tweet

Stella finished off her statement by revealing that the police needed to be clearer as to why any such information helped to find Nicola or supported the investigation.

Silkie Carlo Shares The Same Sentiment

Big Brother Watch's Silkie Carlo also spoke against the Lancashire police. She called the decision a serious invasion of Nicola's privacy with no obvious benefits for the investigation.

Social Media Users Share Their Thoughts

Other social media users felt the decision showcased the police's treatment of women, which has been under scrutiny following cases involving serial rapist David Carrick and woman killer Wayne Couzens.

Jamie Klingler Calls The Police Incompetent

Speaking about the police's treatment of women, the co-founder of Reclaim These Streets, Jamie Klingler, said she wasn't invested in Nicola's story until the police began using her to shield their incompetence.

Jamie Says The Police's Decision Is Cruel

Jamie further insisted that the police's treatment of Nicola was no way to treat a missing woman, adding that it was cruel to Nicola and her babies. The Director of the Good Law Project, Jo Maghaum, also shared the same sentiment

Inside Jo Maghaum's Thoughts

Jo tweeted, questioning how the police would justify a breach of Nicola's confidentiality if she was eventually found alive. No arrests have been made, but the public hopes for positive news in the coming days.
