The late multi-platinum-selling singer Whitney Houston's life is again in the spotlight with the release of her biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. One of the most talked about sequences from the show is the singer's affair with her former assistant, Robyn Crawford.

Fans want to know if it was made up for shock value in the movie or happened. With biopics, directors often get the freedom to add fiction for extra spice to the storyline. However, a recent interview with Clive Davis confirms the story was true after Robyn's revelation a few years ago.

Davis Tells The Real Story

Davis sat down with Extra and dished on Houston's relationship with her former assistant.

"The movie does set the record straight. They did have a teenage one-year affair."

In her biography, A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston, Robyn also talked about the romance.

The music executive confirmed their romance, saying it was short-lived but passionate. Davis said they explored that relationship in the biopic because publications got Whitney's story wrong after her death.

According to the executive, many people tied her drug addiction to being a "frustrated lesbian," but it wasn't true. Instead, Davis said she had other affairs and relationships with men, including Jermaine Jackson.

Davis praised Naomi Ackie's performance as the legendary Whitney Houston saying her audition tape stood out from the beginning.

She blew him away the way the I Wanna Dance with Somebody singer did in the early Eighties. He revealed that the actress lip-synced the entire music seamlessly making it a believable performance.

Stanley Tucci portrayed him in the movie and Davis also praised his performance. He said,

"It was a little weird but the guy is great. He's a master actor."

Critics Gave It Average Reviews

Davis is proud of the movie and believes the late singer would be too. The movie was released to theaters last weekend under the title, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, one of Houston's many hit songs.

Although Davis is impressed with its turnout, critics had mostly average reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes rating it 48 percent, Metacritic giving it 55 percent, and IMDb scoring it the highest 6.6/10.

Ackie Recreates Many Iconic Moments In The Movie

Some of the iconic reprisals in the movie include Whitney Houston performing at the Super Bowl in 1991 at 27. She wore the iconic white tracksuit and the Marc Bouwer golden dress with a turban in South Africa in 1994.

The movie also explored the making of the classic movie, The Bodyguard, and its record-breaking soundtrack.
