MLM, or multi-level marketing, is a very grey area. It is described as a way of promoting certain items along with an opportunity to sell them and encouraging others to do the same and build their own business. However, they are oddly similar to pyramid schemes, so no wonder why this Redditor was so upset after she was approached in her own house.

The post starts with OP saying she and her husband had hosted a party in honor of her husband's recent birthday. It was supposed to be a small gathering to have dinner to then go to a pub.

Many people were at the party, and OP only knew some of them. She described that there was a woman, Claire, who she was meeting for the first time, but since the moment they were introduced, something was off.

Claire was Harry's wife, a friend of OP's husband, and she came off as a pretty judgy person; yet, OP gave her the benefit of the doubt because she didn't talk to her as much. One moment OP realized she didn't buy mixers and went out to get them, but it only took her about ten minutes.

Those ten minutes were enough for Claire to take over the party. When OP returned, there was no music, and everyone was sitting in the living room; she noticed a table set up in the kitchen with products and flyers and recognized Claire was trying to host an MLM party.

When OP Arrived, It Was All Set Up

Everyone Took Sides

Of course, OP was visibly upset about Claire's arbitrary and disrespectful attitude. They started to argue, and Claire accused her of not supporting small businesses, while OP told her it was a pyramid scheme and she wouldn't let others fall for it.

In the end, she kicked her out of the house, and Harry left with her. There were some mixed feelings about what happened, but many of the guests agreed with OP after knowing what MLM was. However, her husband was mad at her for embarrassing him and making Harry leave.

People in the comments agreed with OP's reaction. It was completely rude to set up a pitching sale in the middle of a party in a house you've only been to once; Claire was annoying, and she was bringing everyone's mood down.

Users thought the worst part of the situation was that she didn't ask first and was selfish because she was bringing attention to her in the middle of someone else's celebration.
