There are some celebrity couples that will always feel like the ones that got away, at least for us fans. Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki from The Big Bang Theory, whose characters Penny and Leonard ended up together married with children, dated behind-the-scenes for two years from 2008 to 2010. While the two have since split, they remain super close friends, and have finally opened up about exactly what episode of the show made them fall in love.

"I think a lot of what made Leonard and Penny work so well was my relationship with Johnny off camera," Kaley revealed.

"Johnny and I’s relationship, in a way, was mimicking Penny and Leonard. They were always giving each other [expletive], and Johnny and I have a similar relationship—which you do after years of being together. We’ve always had each other’s backs, and you can’t lose that. And I do think it happened on-screen. It made our relationship funny and endearing," Kaley went on.

"I had a very big crush on Johnny early on. I was so not even hiding it."

"He has such swagger. We were both dating people at the time, but I only had eyes for Johnny. Then, when I found out he had eyes for me too, I was like, Uh‑oh, this is going to be trouble," Kaley raved.

For his part, Johnny said he was clueless. "I have a healthy ego, but you really have to kind of club me over the head to let me know you’re flirting with me. I had zero idea of any sort of crush before Kaley and I began dating."

"All the scenes up until we actually got together in real life, it was obvious there was always something there. There was chemistry and we were crushing on each other," Kaley said.

It all came to a head during the episode titled The Nerdvanna Annihilation where the two characters are entwined together in the elevator shaft as Leonard rescues Penny (at least, they are in Leonard's dream sequence.

"It was not an enjoyable experience for me," Kaley said of filming the episode, as Johnny explained, "We had to be in each other’s arms—and for quite some time, because it was a bit of a stunt that we were doing. It was a whole thing, and it was a pretape since it took a little while. Kaley didn’t look freaked out at all. In fact, she looked extremely happy in those arms."

"I think we fell a little in love in that elevator shaft," Kaley revealed.

"We felt something, yeah," Johnny agreed. "I think that was a massive turning point [in our relationship]. At that point, both she and I knew that something mutual was felt, and that it was going to be more of a distraction from the work to try and continue to ignore it than to actually recognize it and surrender to it."
