10+ Actors Who Had To Work Together After They Broke Up

When most of us break up with somebody, they're out of our lives completely.

We don't see them, we don't talk to them, and we most certainly try our best not to work with them.

But the same can't be said for Hollywood actors. Most of them have to keep working together post-breakup. As the saying goes, the show must go on!

1. Joey King and Jacob Elordi

Netflix

The former pair met on the set of The Kissing Booth in 2017. While they dated for a year, they sadly called it quits in 2018.

Since their movie has been so popular, they had to work together on two more of them.

On a 2019 podcast episode, King shared what it was like to reunite with her ex on set.

Netflix

"It was fine. It was good," she said, later adding that since she's such a fan of the movies, it was worth working with her ex again.

2. Blake Lively and Penn Badgley

CW

Gossip Girl fans were so excited when they found out that Serena and Lonely Boy were a thing IRL.

While they dated for two years, things ended in 2010. This certainly made things awkward since the show continued on for two more years.

Their characters even got married in the series finale!

The show's executive producer, Joshua Safran, revealed that the pair kept their breakup super professional.

"They kept it from everybody which is a testament to how good they are as actors."

3. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

Temple Hill Productions

These two met on the 2009 set of Twilight. Their chemistry was undeniable; they even won the MTV Award for Best Kiss four years in a row!

Sadly, their relationship crashed and burned in 2012.

Kristen had been photographed kissing her married *Snow White and the Huntsmen* director, Rupert Sanders.

To make things even more awkward, Kristen and Robert had to continue working together to promote The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

4. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray

These former One Tree Hill co-stars had quite the whirlwind relationship. They were married for only a few months before they sadly had to get divorced.

They also had a whirlwind time working together post-divorce.

Since things did not end amicably, it was difficult to work together.

CW

Murray even left the show in 2009, which might have something to do with the awkwardness that is working with your ex-wife.

It must have been one awkward set.

5. Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan

ABC

Way before the actress was married to Ben Affleck, she had a fling with her Alias costar.

Although they eventually broke up in 2004, the show — quite literally — must go on. Talk about an awkward time.

They worked together for two more years until 2006.

ABC

This wasn't too difficult for them, though, since Vartan later told USA Today that he and Garner were "better off as friends."

Well, at least everything worked out the way it was supposed to!

6. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

The two Latin powerhouses were married for 10 years and even have twins together, Emme and Max.

But when they got divorced, not only did they stay friends, they also kept making music together!

This was their Spanish-language album.

But that is definitely not all.

They worked together on the competition show, Q'Viva! The Chosen and Marc is even invited to Jlo's upcoming nuptials to the former pro baseball player, A-Rod.

7. Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall

Showtime

Despite playing siblings on Dexter, these two ended up falling in love offscreen.

They even got married and were together from 2008 to 2011. When things ended, they had to work together post-divorce for two more years.

This is something that thankfully wasn't too difficult.

"Our marriage didn't look like anyone else's, and our divorce didn't either," Carpenter said at the PaleyFest Dexter Fall Farewell event.

"I said it before just because the marriage ended doesn't mean the love did."

8. Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia

NBC

The former pair met on the set of Heroes and struck up a relationship soon after. They dated for two years before calling it quits in 2009.

They had to work together for one more year after this.

9. Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak

The hilarious duo first met while working as writers on The Office.

While they broke up, they're best friends today and Novak appeared on The Mindy Project.

10. Alexis Bledel and Milo Ventimiglia

CW

Milo has quite the history of working with his exes! In addition to Hayden, he dated his Girlmore Girls costar for four years after they first met in 2001.

Maybe it's a good thing his character, Jess, eventually left the show?

11. Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki

NBC

These two met on the set of The Big Bang Theory. Just as their characters were budding love interests, so were these two offscreen.

They dated for two years before calling it quits in 2009.

Since their characters were still madly in love, this actually messed with their breakup.

"We were a little like, ‘We were trying to end the relationship and it kept falling back in,'" she told Haute Living.

"We got over it really fast, and we’re closer than ever now. It could have gone either way, and I was really proud of us.”

12. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper

Universal Pictures

The two met during the filming of Mamma Mia! and were together for more than three years before splitting up.

The pair reunited to film the sequel and, luckily, we got another amazing movie out of it!

13. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev

Fictional vampire romances can't help but bleed into real life! See what I did there?

The two stars and onscreen couple in The Vampire Diaries dated for three years before they split.

The two even won a "best chemistry" award at the People's Choice Awards after their breakup.

They had a sense of humor about the whole situation, with Nina joking during the acceptance, "It's a good thing it's not awkward!"

These two dated for four years after meeting while filming the X-Men movies, and they continued to film after their breakup.

At least their characters weren't dating as well! That must make it a little bit easier.

15. Jenny Slate and Chris Evans

These two have a bit of an on-again, off-again relationship, but they were definitely off-again when they were promoting their film Gifted together.

I loved them together!

16. Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson

This one's a throwback! Way before Joey and Pacey came together on Dawson's Creek, Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson were each other's first loves, who unfortunately broke up before their characters' romance culminated on the show.

17. Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz

Columbia Pictures

Justin and Cameron dated and broke up long before they starred together in Bad Teacher, but Cameron didn't let that stop the film from happening.

“Justin and I have always had a good laugh together," she said.

Columbia Pictures

"And to make a movie where we get to have a laugh together... There really was no one else who was more perfect for this part.”

Now that's a mature attitude to have after a breakup!
