People Reveal Things They Did In School That They Now Realize Were Terrible

We were all kids once. Which means, we went to school, and probably got into all sorts of trouble. There are definitely some things we did as kids that didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but really were.

In an Ask Reddit inquiry, someone asked, "What's something that a friend/classmate did in high school that was seen as funny at the time, but you now realise was actually not ok?" And boy, did people answer.

1. "My friend faked her own kidnapping. [It] was all fun and games until the police started chasing her 'kidnappers'' van." - AvocaDotty

Yeah, that definitely sounds like the kind of thing a kid would think is funny. But it doesn't take too long to realize that this is actually really serious. Kidnapping is no joke.

2. "When I was in middle school, some kids spiked our Family and Consumer Sciences teacher's chili with sleeping pills." - throwawaytheist

"I'm pretty sure someone told so she never ate it, but that could have ended really badly."

That's such a horrible thing to do to someone!

3. "Bottle rockets being shot down the hallway, filling milk jugs with acetylene and lighting them up with a torch, damaging the brand new school bus with a shot put, etc..." - Material-Constant-45

That's a lot of trouble... It's hard to believe that people were really out there misbehaving that badly. And yet, I'm not surprised in the slightest.

4. "Throw peanuts at the kid with a nut allergy." - A_S_O_C_B

That's actually so mean. And so dangerous! But I do feel like those of us who didn't suffer from food allergies growing up didn't really grasp how serious (and deadly!) they can be.

"A drive by pita is when you throw a full pita at someone out the window of a moving vehicle."

Okay, that's at least not illegal, but it's still kind of dangerous. And... super weird.

6. "Had a classmate that used to steal this one kid’s clothes during gym and replace it with something else." - Bullydaddy

"I think one of the more messed up things was the teachers were almost in on it. Like they wouldn’t do anything about it, just lean into it."

That's... super messed up. Especially the fact that no one did anything about it.

7. "I had a well-loved teacher in high school who had some sort of intense aversion to glitter." - JewishFightClub

"So ofc a bunch of the... seniors decided to 'prank' him buy [sic] dumping bags of glitter all around his classroom."

Because of course you have to prank your teacher for no real reason.

"The poor man actually dropped to the ground and started sobbing."

Wow... why are kids so mean? Not only did they traumatize the poor guy, but the created such a huge mess for no reason.

I don't know this girl, but I feel so bad for her. When will people realize that hair is... just hair, and things like that are perfectly normal?

9. "Honestly probably the manipulation and attention grabbing tactics that 'friends' would do to each other, back stabbing each other and turning your vulnerabilities into weapons against you." - bak2dafuture

Being a kid can be so tough, especially since other kids are just so mean to each other. And yeah, social media definitely doesn't help on that front.

10. "The more popular guys in my class made a ranking list of the hottest girls in our grade level." - Another_Road

"It ended up getting leaked. Found out a bit later the girl who was ranked dead last spent a few hours crying by herself in the bathroom."

I honestly thought this was only something that happened in teen movies. That's... horrifying.

11. "Senior prank where people sneak into the school and vandalize whatever they see." - WAST_code

Senior pranks are almost always bad. They generally end up in people getting hurt, or property getting damaged. It's so messed up how that tradition keeps continuing pretty much everywhere.

12. "In high school we had a Japanese language class, and one of the teachers was actually from Japan." - RIPMYPOOPCHUTE

" He had an accent, and the kids would try to get him to say parallelogram as a joke."

Why do kids keep insisting on pranking their hard-working teachers?

"As an adult, I realize how messed up that is to make fun of someone for their accent."

"But, the teacher caught on and would just say parallelogram in Japanese."

On the plus side, it looks like the teacher was a lot smarter than the students.

13. "I had some classmates that were taking money from another kid in order to hang out with him and then they were bragging about it to the rest of the school." - Deluhathol

If I had to choose between paying to hang out with someone and being a complete loner, I probably would've chosen the latter. That's such a mean thing to do to a person!

14. "We nominated an unpopular, unattractive girl to be Homecoming Queen as a cruel joke. She won." - seanpwns

Am I the only one getting Carrie vibes from this? Hopefully there was no pig's blood involved, but it's still a pretty mean way to mess with a fellow student.

15 "My senior year, me and some friends broke into the school over the weekend and rigged the student body election." - the_murder_of_crowe

"The joke I've made for years is that we essentially installed our own government, but the reality of it is that it was still breaking and entering."

I... don't even know what to say about this.

16. "We had a very passionate vegan girl in our class in high school. Someone thought it would be funny to put a dead frog on the hood of her car." - SmallWaffle

"I️ didn’t witness it but people told me she just sat in her car crying until everyone was out of the parking lot."

That's a pretty mean thing to do to anyone, let alone someone who's a vegan.

17. "Suddenly throwing a heavy marble ball out of the window without even watching." - Unworldlythoughts

Why do kids insist on daring each other to do the weirdest things? Things that could seriously injure other people, too! Seriously, being a kid was so weird.

18. "Harassing and mocking the teachers." - Lord-AG

"One of them even got a nervous breakdown because of it and was on sick leave for half a year."

Honestly, we don't deserve teachers. They put up with more than they should ever need to.
