Chris Pine Speaks Out on What Harry Styles Said Instead of Spitting on Him at Premiere

It was exactly six months ago that the Don’t Worry Darling cast had the Internet in a frenzy with the persistent news of drama among cast members.

The short clip of Harry Styles seemingly spitting on co-star, Chris Pine, was one of the videos that went viral during that time.

Chris’ team was quick to deny the allegations, and Harry even joked about the whole scenario while he was on tour.

Pine’s representative responded, “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion.”

In an interview with Esquire, Chris offers a clearer look at everything that underwent between him and Harry Styles.

Chris revealed that the moment before Harry was about to sit on his chair, he leaned towards him and said, “It's just words, isn't it?” further clarifying that the term was an inside joke between the cast.

Providing further information about the “inside joke,” the actor stated, “because we're all jetlagged, we're all trying to answer these questions, and sometimes when you're doing these press things, your brain goes all befuddled, you know, you start speaking gibberish, and we had a joke like, 'It's just words, man.”

Talking about Harry, Chris clarified, “Harry did not spit on me. Harry is a very kind guy.”

Revealing the moment he discovered the escalating rumors, he said, “I was on the plane with my publicist…sleeping, having a great time on the plane.”

He revealed how his publicist hurriedly woke him up and said, “we have to craft a message about what happened in Venice. … She showed me the thing.”

“Spitgate,” as the Harry and Chris incident became known by fans, wasn’t the only thing that went down in Venice. The entire press tour at the Film Festival was a gift that kept on giving.

Talking about his time in Venice, Chris stated, "Venice was normal things getting swept up in a narrative that people wanted to make.”

While the 42-year-old actor may have put the fire of rumors between him and Harry to rest, there wasn’t the only duo that made the news.

Florence Pugh was also caught in the string of tension rumors with Olivia Wilde, who produced the film. While Olivia was busy promoting the film on her socials, Florence did not share a single post and even skipped the film’s press day.

Even Harry and Olivia, who were in a relationship at the time, seemed to be keeping their distance from each other throughout the Festival.

As for inside news about any drama on the set, Chris had only one thing to say, “If there was drama, there was drama, I absolutely didn’t know about it, nor really would I have cared.”

Fans who saw the video had mixed opinions. One Twitter user wrote, “it definitely looks like he did,” while another said, “Surely not. But it sure does look like it.”
