Sam Smith's appearance at the recent BRIT Awards has left people talking. The performer, who goes by they/them pronouns, showed up to the ceremony, held at the O2 Arena, in a pretty unconventional outfit.

Smith was clad head-to-toe in a latex bodysuit with inflatable features. The areas around their shoulders and legs pointed out, as if to create an exaggerated silhouette.

The Outfit Had The Internet In A Frenzy!

Social media users across a variety of platforms had a field day with Smith's experimental attire. But none were as obsessed as Twitter, where users tons of jokes and references to what the singer was wearing.

Users Made All Sorts Of Strange Comparisons.

Many compared Smith's outfit to a wetsuit that had a bit too much water (or air) inside of it.

Others Thought The Star Resembled A Chicken.

Namely, a burnt rotisserie chicken. Users felt that the exaggerated features on Smith's suit looked a lot more chicken-like than humanlike.

Users kept making hilarious comparisons, oftentimes to different characters from SpongeBob SquarePants. Many wondered how they could walk in the outfit.

Smith's Attire Was Made By Harri.

The fashion label is based in London, and collaborated with Smith in order to create the look.

The designer, Harri, explained that he wanted to help Smith embrace their body after receiving recent backlash. "This is my take on celebrating [their] natural form and the beauty of being one’s self," he said. "I wanted to create an image which people have never seen Sam in."

Smith Also Recently Opened Up About Their Experience With Body Dysmorphia.

"I'm happier in my own skin on Gloria. I feel liberated, released from pressures I felt when I was young," they said, referring to their recent studio album.

Smith did not wear the black latex suit while performing the hit single, and it did not go without a hitch. Reportedly, Smith got frustrated with producers behind stage, as technical difficulties nearly caused the performance to be skipped.
