Who Is Bonnie Raitt? The Singer Beats Beyonce, Adele, Taylor Swift, And Harry Styles At The Grammys

Raitt was shocked to be called out as the winner of the Song of the Year award at the 2023 Grammys on February 5. The 73-year-old's song, Just Like That took home the award. Others in the nomination include Beyonce's Break My Soul, and Taylor Swift's All Too Well. Lizzo's About Damn Time, Harry Styles' As It Was, Steve Lacy's Bad Habit, GAYLE abcdefu. Others are, DJ Khalid's God Did, Adele's Easy On Me, and Kendrick Lamar's The Heart Part 5.

As DailyMail gathered, Raitt took to the stage and expressed her shock for the win. She was presented with the award by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. During Raitt's speech, she paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter John Prine. Raitt also won Best American Performance and Best American Roots Song. 

Harry Styles' Harry's House won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Lizzo's About Damn Time won Record of the Year. Samara Joy was Best New Artist, and Adele's Easy On Me won Best Pop Solo Performance. Sam Smith & Kim Petras won Best Pop Duo with Unholy.

Beyonce's Break My Soul and Renaissance won Best Dance/Electronic Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album, respectively. Before the end of the night, she became the person with the most Grammy wins. Others include Brandi Carlile's Broken Horses as Best Rock Performance, Beyonce's Cuff It as Best R&B Song, and many others. 

Bonnie Lynn Raitt was born in Burbank, California on November 8, 1949. At the age of 8, she started playing the guitar after receiving it as a Christmas gift. In 1967, she completed her high school education at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie. At Radcliffe College, Raitt studied social relations and African studies. In 1991, the singer married actor Michael O'Keefe but later divorced.

Raitt is famous for her activism which is related to environmental causes. She was also a founding member of Musicians United for Safe Energy. It was founded in 1979 and she has also worked with Reverb, which is a non-profit environmental organization. Raitt is also part of the No Nukes Group which is against the expansion of nuclear power. 

Raitt signed at Warner Bros and released a self-titled debut album in 1971. She later released several albums like Nine Lives, Green Light, and Sweet Forgiveness. She signed with Capitol Records in 1989 and later released the album Nick of Time.

The album was the first position on the US Billboard 200 and sold about five million copies. Raitt's next album, Luck of the Draw won three Grammy Awards and sold seven million copies in the US. She has won 13 awards in total and has released very successful albums.
