Lisa Marie Presley was reportedly under a lot of pressure in the days leading up to her death.
The singer and only daughter of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, died on January 12 after suffering from cardiac arrest just two days after attending the 2023 Golden Globes.
Lisa was reportedly overwhelmed by the need to attend the awards ceremony, where Austin Butler won Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for his portrayal of Elvis.
She’d been stressing over the Golden Globes for a few months, after realizing that she’d need to step out in public for the event. According to TMZ, she was self-conscious about the weight she’d put on over the previous years.
The outlet said Lisa got “obsessed” about looking good for the event and went on a tough weight loss program where she allegedly shed off 40 to 50 pounds in six weeks.
During her red carpet interview with Extra host Billy Bush at the Golden Globes, it was obvious she was a little unsteady. At one point, she had to grab the arm of her friend Jerry Schilling to keep her balance.
According to TMZ, a source connected to the Presley family went so far as to say, “Were it not for the Golden Globes, Lisa might be alive today.”
The singer/actress had been living a low-profile life in recent years. Sources told the outlet that she had gotten used to the anonymity afforded by the pandemic.
When her son Benjamin died by suicide in July 2020, she was so grief-stricken that she didn’t want to be seen out in public. She spent much of the pandemic holed up at home.
During the rare times she needed to step out, she wore a mask over her face and felt comforted by the anonymity. She liked the fact that photographers and fans didn’t recognize her with her mask on.
However, the prospect of attending the Golden Globes gave her anxiety because it meant she would be in the public eye again. TMZ’s sources said she was so overwhelmed that she started taking opioids again.
