Kate Middleton is many things, and one of them is a fashion icon whose every style move is followed by fans all over the world. This month, the 40-year-old royal has been in the news as usual, thanks to a packed holiday calendar and a festive wardrobe to go with it.

In one of her most recent appearances, a promo video for a royal Christmas event that she hosted, she gave off holiday vibes in a sparkling look that totally nailed the mood of the season. See below.

Festive Knitwear

The Princess of Wales hosted Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, a service at Westminster Abbey that took place in mid-December and aired in England on Christmas Eve. To promote the event, she filmed a teaser shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s official Instagram page, where she was aptly dressed in festive knitwear.

Her black cardigan was by self-Portrait and featured gold braid trim along with sequin and diamante detailing, and it certainly looked holiday-appropriate in spite of the dark color.

The Reason Behind The Color Choice

There’s a good reason behind the color choice: this was the first carol service since Queen Elizabeth II passed away, and members of the royal family have traditionally worn black when in mourning. According to the Instagram post, the event was dedicated to the late monarch “and to all those who are sadly no longer with us.”

Middleton talked about the legacy of the late Queen, saying, “Her Majesty held Christmas close to her heart, as a time that brought people together and reminded us of the importance of faith, friendship and family, and to show empathy and compassion.”

Who Were Invited?

The Princess continued, “This year, we’ve invited hundreds of inspiring individuals to the service. Those who showcase the power of connectedness and community values, allowing us to continue Her Majesty’s tradition of recognizing and thanking those who have gone above and beyond to support others.”

For the actual event, the Princess wore a monochromatic ensemble consisting of a classic and elegant burgundy coat dress by Eponine, suede pumps by Gianvito Rossi, gloves by M&Co, and a clutch by Aspinal of London. She wore her brunette tresses in loose side-parted waves and accessorized with a pair of gemstone drop earrings.

Earlier this month, she shared another promo video on Instagram, where she looked glamorous in a sparkling red gown by Needle & Thread.
