The teenage years of a child often revolved around explorations and trying new things, but the task of being a parent to a teenager is not an easy feat. Many times, teenagers and their parents clash over choices, but a diplomatic approach to issues could always save the day. A Reddit mom presently living out the phase of being a mom to a teenager is in a dilemma as Christmas approaches.

This Resulted In A Back-and-forth Between The Mom-daughter Duo

The mom who described herself as a 40-year-old female narrated how an issue came up with her 14-year-old daughter who wanted acrylics for Christmas. She relayed that the youngster wanted a trip to the nail salon to get long acrylics like she had seen other girls do.

However, after weighing the request, the mom refused to give her permission or pay for her daughter to get the nails done. She thought getting those types of nails was a waste of money and went ahead to suggest that her daughter could get press-on nails instead.

The mom thought press-ons would be just as nice although they did not last as long as acrylics.

The teenager in question did not buy into the idea as she insisted that she would rather get acrylics. The mom offered to take her daughter to shop for press-ons and also show her how to fix them. Because the offer sounded cheap, she included a fancy hair appointment.

However, none of this seemed interesting to the young girl. According to the mom, her daughter refused, noting that nobody opted for press-on nails because they did not look good. The Redditor relayed that she felt hurt by this, but stood her ground while demanding that her daughter should not be disrespectful.

This did not deter the girl who complained that press-ons would make her the butt of the joke among her peers because it was not the real thing. The Redditor ultimately told her daughter she could get the acrylic nails done if she had her own money because she would not spend on something she felt was a waste of money.

The Reddit user made it known that her husband later got involved as he took sides with their daughter. He told her she was being too harsh because acrylic nails were a status symbol for girls. The mom retorted stating that their daughter was too young for a status symbol. The duo went at it for a while with a back-and-forth that had the Redditor’s spouse stating that they could afford the nail salon trip. The mom shared that she refused to budge and it made her husband grumble. According to her, her spouse and their daughter became unhappy with her.

Other Redditors who followed the story had mixed reactions. While some thought she could have been more lenient, others sided with the mom.
