Over the past few years, more and more young people have taken to owning vans, buses, or other similar vehicles in order to live in while they travel around their country. But one couple, Lawrence Dodi and Rachel Nixon decided to use their mobile home to travel around the world. Oh, and it's no ordinary vehicle. It's an ambulance.

The couple, who hail from the UK, have spent the last year traveling from country to country, mainly within Europe. Their only travel companion is their darling springer spaniel, Peggy Sue. As of now, they've visited at least 24 countries, and are on track to set a world record for the longest distance traveled in an ambulance.

Their Ambulance-Driving Antics Have Caught the Attention of People From Around the World

The two purchased the ambulance in 2018 after looking for a functional vehicle with which they could travel.

"The initial plan wasn't to buy an ambulance or try to set a world record or anything like that," Dodi tells CNN. He further states that they "fell in love" with the ambulance's aesthetics.

As they've traveled, Dodi and Nixon have seen new sights and met people along their journey -- most of whom follow their travels on Instagram.

When the two realized no one was doing anything similar with an ambulance, they decided they could try to break the record on their own. They set out in October of 2021, and have so far driven 24,000 kilometers, or in and around 15,000 miles.

Apparently, the minimum distance for the world record is 20,000 kilometers, but Dodi and Nixon have vowed to "keep going and try to set the highest figure possible."

And They Do It All With Their Dog, Peggy Sue!

The 10-year-old springer spaniel is full of energy and is just happy to spend time with her family.

"She can hike all day, and if she needs to sit in the van all day, she can do that. So in terms of us doing our outdoor pursuits, it's not been a major problem," Dodi says.

As of Now, They Still Have Plans To Travel to More and More Countries

Their next stop is the Americas. The couple will have to ship their ambulance to Canada before traveling down the PanAmerican Highway and ending in Argentina. But first, they're planning to head back to the UK for a bit of rest before the next leg of their journey.
