After two years of closed theatres and disappointing releases due to the coronavirus, the movie world was looking grim.

Then, 2022 came along, bringing with it tons of fresh and captivating films that were rated highly on Rotten Tomatoes and must-see summer blockbusters.

So if you're looking for the next best movie to watch, you've come to the right place. Here are the best movies of 2022 (so far).

'Elvis'

Austin Butler as Elvie
AARP | Warner Bros.

Fans were all shook up after seeing Austin Butler's take on the King of Rock and Roll. The actor truly transformed into the role, making it hard to distinguish who was Elvis and who was Austin. This was especially the case during the film's last chilling scene.

'The Batman'

Batman and Catwoman
Vanity Fair | DC

After much anticipation, DC fans got to see what a Batman with Robert Pattinson was like. Thankfully, he didn't disappoint. Robert was the emo Batman we all needed and we got to see more of Batman's detective skills as he hunted down The Riddler.

'The Lost City'

Sandra Bullock being wheeled by Brad Pitt
Giphy | The Lost City

This movie proved that Sandra Bullock has still got it! It provided lots of laughs and sweet moments.

And while it won't be winning any Oscar awards anytime soon, we got the next best thing: Oscar from The Office tackling Daniel Radcliffe (Abigail).

'Lightyear'

Buzz Lightyear
The NY Times | Disney

Disney wasn't playing when they made this origin story about Buzz Lightyear. The film shows the beloved character on an intergalactic adventure alongside some friends, like a robot kitty companion. Chris Evans voicing Buzz will comfort those missing Tim Allen.

'Bob's Burgers'

Linda and Bob in kitchen
Giphy | Bob's Burgers

As a huge Bob's Burgers fan, I'm proud to say that this movie didn't disappoint! It had all the heart, laughter, and catchy songs that are in the show. What could be better than a comedy-mystery that also features music?

'Fresh'

Sebastian Stan holding grapes
Netflix Life | Searchlight

Oh, the horrors of modern dating. If you want to see the extremes of this, watch Fresh starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. Without ruining too much of the plot, a woman falls for a man who has, well, quite the appetite.

'Dog'

Dog and Channing Tatum on truck
Giphy | Dog The Movie

It's Channing Tatum and a dog, what could be better than that? While movies based around pets don't usually score high on Rotten Tomatoes, Dog has 76 percent! It's about a man in the military going on a road trip with a badly behaved dog.

'Hustle'

Adam Sandler in Hustler
LA Times | Netflix

This film, along with Uncut Gems, is proof that Adam Sandler shines in dramas. It shows him as a washed-up basketball scout who discovers an amazing basketball player in Spain. He uses this as his chance to get back into the NBA.

'I Want You Back'

Charlie Day doing situps
Giphy | I Want You Back Movie

This film, starring Charlie Day and Jenny Slate, brought freshness to an otherwise dead genre. With a unique storyline and clever writing, it followed Peter (Day) and Emma (Slate) as random strangers who devise a plan to win back their exes.

'Watcher'

Woman staring out window
Netflix Life | Paramount

Fan of horror flicks? You have to see Watcher, which stars Maika Monroe (It Follows). She plays a young actress who recently moved to town with her boyfriend. But soon, she notices that the man in the building across the street is watching her.

'Turning Red'

Girl turning into red panda
Giphy | Regal

This family comedy has the cutest plot ever: a 13-year-old girl turns into a red panda whenever she gets too excited. Similar to Inside Out, the film perfectly tackles puberty and even periods to help other girls feel less alone.

'Everything Everywhere All At Once'

Michelle getting held back
IMBd | Searchlight

Michelle Yeoh absolutely shines in this masterpiece about an immigrant who must save the world by connecting with the lives she could've led in other universes. The film has been praised for being funny, emotional, and chaotic, all at once.

'Jackass Forever'

Port-a-potty exploding
Giphy | Jackass Forever

When in the mood for some knockout fun, Jackass has your back. It's the sixth film in the franchise and familiar faces are back, including Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, and Chris Pontius. As always, there are crazy and stupid stunts, including one that almost killed Knoxville.

'The Northman'

Alexander Skarsgård running into battle in 'The Northman'
Universal | Universal

This film has been a favorite among Redditors. It's about a Viking prince's quest to avenge his father's murder. They've praised director Robert Eggers for his unique directing style. "This film depicts vikings more accurately than anything else I've ever seen," one fan wrote.

'Ambulance'

Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Variety | Warner Bros.

If you're looking for an over-the-top action flick, Michael Bay doesn't disappoint. This film was a rollercoaster from start to finish with two brothers hijacking an ambulance after a botched bank job. Jake Gyllenhaal's character is unlike anything he's ever done.

'The Worst Person in the World'

Woman running
Giphy | MUBI

This is a movie that will make you feel things. It's an amazing representation of the anxiety many people in their late 20s feel. The deep character study follows a woman who makes some wrong choices in her love life. Been there!

'Scream'

Neve and Courteney
Indie Wire | Spyglass

Sequels are a tricky thing. They're rarely done right and sometimes even ruin a franchise entirely. Luckily, Scream didn't fall prey to this. Starring most of the original characters — Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, it follows the story of a new serial killer.

'The Black Phone'

The Grabber
Giphy | The Black Phone

It's been called one of the best horror movies of the past several years. Ethan Hawke stars as The Grabber, a serial killer who abducts a 13-year-old boy. Soon, the child starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer's previous victims.

'Top Gun: Maverick'

Tom Cruse pumping his fist
Diply | Paramount

In the long-awaited sequel, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell returns to the TOPGUN Naval aviation program after more than 30 years. Thanks to an interesting storyline, incredible ariel shots, and old and new faces, it dominated the box office, earning a staggering $623.8 million domestic.
