For many, people associate Gwyneth Paltrow with her movies roles in Seven and Shakespeare in Love (for which she won an Oscar). But more recently, her name is associated with the lifestyle brand Goop, which she founded and is the CEO of.

Of course, many of the products her company sells can be unconventional or somewhat taboo, for lack of a better term.

Goop is a lifestyle brand that specializes in pretty much everything.

From beauty and skincare, to health and wellness, to travel and fashion, Paltrow's brand is carefully curated and representative of her personal style and point of view.

And the product line, of course, sells a variety of scented candles.

Paltrow first rose to prominence as an actress in the '90s.

Her notable early work includes Se7en (1995) and Emma (1996). But her meteoric rise to fame happened after starring in Shakespeare in Love (1998), where she won the Oscar for Best Actress.

She went on to become a huge name in Hollywood.

Paltrow spent a good decade portraying Pepper Potts in the Iron Man and MCU movies, and was most recently in The Politician on Netflix, which was co-created by her current husband, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, and Ryan Murphy.

In more recent years, though, acting as a CEO has made acting in movies and TV less of a focus for Paltrow.

Goop first started as a newsletter in 2008, and grew into the business venture we know today. In 2016, Paltrow formally became the CEO of the brand.

Paltrow sat down to talk about the scented candles her company sells.

Among others, one of her brand's scented candles is called "This Smells Like My Vagina," referring to an organ that around half of the population has, but few like to discuss publicly. The birth canal is certainly a less traditional scent for a candle, and it has attracted Goop quite a bit of attention.

But for Paltrow, it represents the power of womanhood.

"This candle is really like that provocation to say like, ‘It’s amazing to be a woman in every way. It’s amazing to have that kind of power and you deserve to have that agency,'" Paltrow told Today.

For her, stepping away from acting in favor of selling hoo-ha scented candles has been a good thing.

"I don’t like being the center of attention," she told Today. “I hate speaking in public. And I’ve had to learn all those skills to sort of like prop myself up and do it anyway."

In many ways, being a CEO has made life easier for her.

Working as a CEO and taking on fewer acting roles has also allowed Paltrow to spend more time with her children, Apple and Moses, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin.

She considers this schedule to be a "blessing."

"I feel very blessed that I’ve been able to try to pursue this other career and kind of like keep hours where I’m able to be home and make them dinner and stuff like that," she continued.

But that doesn't mean she's completely given up on acting.

She's still open to appearing in anything her husband is involved in, and wants to act on the stage someday.

"I told [her mother] that I would go and do a play,” she said. “So, I’m going to deliver on that promise at some point."
