No one said becoming an actress was easy, but there are certain actresses that certainly had tougher times scoring their breakout roles than others.

In a podcast interview, Cameron Diaz shared in great detail what jobs she had before her work in Hollywood, including some very scary ones which were very different from the jobs she wanted to have at the time.

Cameron Diaz recently opened up about a dark part of her life.

After an eight-year hiatus, Diaz is returning to her acting career by starring in a film called Back In Action alongside Jamie Foxx.

In the leadup to this, she's been doing interviews and sharing stories of her life before she made it big.

She told one harrowing story about work she got while living in France.

She divulged all of this on the podcast Second Life, telling host Hillary Kerr that after she had moved to Paris to try and pursue modeling, she had a lot of trouble finding work.

She did eventually land a job, but it seemed very suspicious.

"I was there a full year and didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life. Then I got one job but, really, I think I was a mule carrying drugs to Morocco — I swear to God," she said.

"This was the early Nineties and they gave me a locked suitcase that had my 'costumes' in it."

When she realized what it actually contained, she panicked.

"I’m this blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco. I’m wearing torn jeans and platform boots, with my hair down — this is really unsafe. I told them, 'I don’t know, it’s not mine, I’ve no idea whose it is'. That was the only job I got in Paris."

She left the suitcase with officials and dodged a 10-year drug trafficking sentence.

She then returned to France, citing that as the only job she ever got in Paris.

Thankfully, not too long after that, she landed her breakout role as Tina Carlyle in the 1994 film The Mask, starring alongside Jim Carrey in what would become one of his most iconic roles as well.

This was funny at the time, as Diaz wasn't trying to become an actress.

She even told the casting director, "I don't act, that's not what I do."

However, director Chuck Russell was dead set on having her, and the rest is history! She's had an incredible career since, one that potentially saved her from other questionable jobs that could have landed her in a lot of trouble.
