In the tumultuous world of the housing market, we're all looking out for a deal these days. Many first-time home-buyers are turning to more alternative homes that they can snag for a cheaper price, like this deal here.
A cabin on a small island off the coast of Maine is up for sale, but with the condition that you have to agree to stay there overnight and win the approval of the current owner before you can buy.
Duck Ledges island hosts the name "loneliest house in the world", a home that's been on the market for quite some time now.
For $339,000, you could get yourself a 540 square foot, one bedroom home and the 1.5 acre island it sits. However, there's a catch.
Billy Milliken, who not only owns the island but is acting as its real estate agent as well through Bold Coast Properties, says that only someone who's willing to stay in the house overnight and prove themselves as worthy of his approval may purchase it.
As he told Insider, "I'm sticking to my plan in that to qualify as a buyer, you've got to stay." He went on to explain that he wants the new owner to not only see the value in the island, but also be willing to handle the quirks that come with it, like the fact that it has no heat or running water.
"It's out there far enough that you're away from any noises and lights," Milliken described, "There's a very dark sky out there, so nighttime is beautiful."
A Facebook post about the property touts "views of nature that you can't find anywhere else. [...] The ledges surrounding the island are loaded with seals for constant entertainment."
A few potential buyers have already stayed the night with more scheduled soon. Milliken said he'll be relying on instinct to select the right party if more than one are qualified.
"It's going to be coming from the gut. When it's right, it's right. I'll feel it, and they'll feel it."
