Foreshadowing is one of the most critical elements of storytelling. It's a way for filmmakers to tease what is to come by providing a trail of breadcrumbs for those savvy few to follow.
Sometimes, foreshadowing in film can be executed with such precision that the audience doesn't even realize it's happening. With that being said, here are a handful of movie moments that were foreshadowed — that still completely escaped me.
Right before Max Shreck pushes Selina Kyle out the window, she can be seen working diligently at her desk. The shadow her glasses casts on her face looks eerily reminiscent of Catwoman's mask.
While training with Yoda on Dagobah, Luke has a vision of fighting Vader inside a giant tree. When he strikes Vader down, Luke sees himself in Vader's helmet — thus confirming they are of the same family tree.
Shortly after Teddy and Chuck arrive at Shutter Island, they begin conducting interviews with some of the patients. While Teddy is speaking with Mrs. Kearns, she takes a sip of water from an invisible glass — thus illustrating that nothing is what it seems.
While having dinner with Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes, Harvey says "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Later on, Gotham's white knight becomes the villain Two-Face.
The Departed has an incredibly high body count. If you pay close attention, you can tell who will be next to bite the bullet by searching the scene for an "X."
No matter how many times I see it, this movie still manages to creep the absolute hell out of me.
During the helicopter ride to Jurassic Park, Dr. Grant can't get buckled up and therefore ties two female seatbelts in a knot. This foreshadows how the all-female dinosaurs were able to mate, by changing their sex — made possible by the frog DNA in their genetic makeup.
During an early magical performance, an aging magician appears to crush and kill a bird in its cage. A young boy starts crying, compelling Alfred Borden to reveal that the bird is alive and well. To which the boy replies, "But where's his brother?"
I can't believe that I never noticed this before! Here I was thinking that Venom just preferred to eat the red ones last.
Why did it all of a sudden start raining frogs? Eagle-eyed viewers will have likely noticed the number 82 popping up multiple times throughout the film. This is a reference to Exodus 8:2, where God instructs Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand that he free the Israelites.
After Andy tells Red of his desire to move to Mexico after he gets out of prison, Red dismisses it as nothing more than "A shitty pipe dream." Later on, Andy crawls to freedom through a sewer pipe.

Audiences should've known that Vanilla Sky is one giant lucid dream right from the get-go. The film opens with a recording of Sophia saying "Open your eyes." Thus implying that David is, in fact, asleep.
After Norman becomes angry when Marion suggests he put his mother in a psychiatric institution, he tells her "She's harmless, she's as harmless as one of those stuffed birds." This is very true, as Norman killed his mother years ago.
In Back to the Future II, Marty walks in on Biff watching A Fistful of Dollars in the hot tub. In that film, Clint Eastwood uses a piece of metal as a bulletproof vest. When Marty gets into a gunfight with Mad-Dog Tannen in BTTF III, he uses the same technique to save his own life.
