I've told you a few times before that I'm a huge movie buff. When it comes to films, I'm not an expert, but I sure do watch them a lot. So I think over the years, I have come to expect a few things. And when I devote a couple of hours to watching a flick, I don't want to get disappointed.

However, that's not always the case. Sometimes once the movie is over, you realize that something is off, and you wish you could have that time back, ha, ha. Here are a few flicks that really disappointed people.

"I Am Number Four"

"My favorite book series produced a steaming pile of fecal matter on the big screen. It was like someone got the one-paragraph summary of the plot of the book and tried to make a movie out of it."

I admit I've never read the books but I did see this movie, and I thought it was okay. I guess the die-hard fans may have something else to say about it.

"The Dark Tower"

"I was so excited to hear it was coming. Visions of a new epic were dancing in my head, and then all my hopes and dreams got [expletive] on. It was so unfaithful that I doubt we'll even see a mini-series to fix it for another decade. Society is just going to pretend it never existed, and it saddens me."

Oh, I have never heard of this one. Did you watch it?

"The Golden Compass"

"I absolutely love that book and series, and the cast was pretty promising (although Nicole Kidman didn't fit the description of Mrs. Coulter, she is a fantastic actress so I thought she'd kill it anyway). The movie fell so flat for me. Lyra was deeply unlikable, and they cut off a portion of the end of the movie to add an unnecessary cliffhanger (when the end of the book was already a cliffhanger). Just awful."

Here's another one I need to find out more about, ha, ha.

"Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets"

"Amazing opening sequence, really cool world building. The two main actors are the worst case of miscasting I have ever witnessed, and the whole kidnapping subplot was completely unnecessary. It should've been an amazing movie. Instead, it was painfully mediocre."

Sadly, that's what I've heard about this one.

"A Wrinkle In Time"

"It was one of my favorite books when I was a kid, and I thought it was creepy without being scary. The new movie is... not good. It has the makings of something good, and the cast is great, but the execution and acting from the kids just... wasn't good. It was hugely disappointing for me."

Oh my goodness, I feel like I'm missing out. I haven't watched this one either. What did you think?

"Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant"

"The Darren Shan saga was one of my favorite book series, the movie was such a letdown, from the casting to the plot, the film was a [expletive] show."

I guess I'm not much of a saga person, as I have never heard of this one either.

"The Langoliers"

"That movie was AWESOME! Tension was great.... the entire movie was great.. until the end and they showed the Langoliers. Terribly animated PAC-mans... killed the entire movie for me and I switched it off immediately."

Yikes, that doesn't sound like a good ending, huh?

"Avatar: The Last Airbender"

"Avatar: The Last Airbender — when they mispronounced Iroh, I walked out."

"It's doubly frustrating because it's not like they were pulling from a book. They have the source material right there, in audio form, telling them what the pronunciation is."

"They mispronounced ALL of the names."

This sounds to me like somebody didn't do their homework.

"World War Z"

"One of my favorite books and they didn't even use the [expletive] plot in the movie."

I had the misfortune of dragging my fiancé to see this at a drive-in theatre on our summer vacation. Needless to say, he hated it.

"Suicide Squad"

"The start of it was quite good but after the introduction of the characters it was quite disappointing."

"You mean the introductions in the prison, then the Trailer House introductions, then the reintroductions outside of the prison, then the 20-second introduction of Katana. So many introductions with so little payoff."

I would have to agree. The whole movie seemed a bit off to me.

"The Happening"

"I like M Night, Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo. The trailer looked interesting. Then I get there... first waiting outside in line and people coming out saying it sucked. Then sitting through it... There are only two movies I have ever watched that I can definitively say I will NEVER watch again and this is one of them."

Honestly, I was never a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's movies so to each their own, I guess.

"Pacific Rim: Uprising"

Robots
Giphy | Pacific Rim Uprising

"I have a deep love for the first one, and the second was just so damn bad. You have a movie about giant robots fighting monsters? How do you possibly [expletive] it up that badly?"

Ha, ha, yeah how?

Zack Snyder's "Justice League"

Justice League

"I grew up with the animated series so this was my most anticipated movie and I was so flabbergasted with the character portrayals and plot."

Okay, I may get in trouble for this, but I can't seem to enjoy DC comic movies. I'm definitely more of a Marvel girl. Who's with me?

"The Giver"

The Giver

"It was going pretty well... and then they threw in a [expletive] romantic subplot that never existed in the book and I'm about 95% sure it's because they feel like they HAD to have one despite it being completely unnecessary and out of place! Ruined the rest of the movie for me because I couldn't get over it and I'm still kinda mad thinking about it."

Time to move on, ha, ha.

"X-Men: The Last Stand"

scene from X-MEN: The Last Stand
IMBD | IMDb

"Putting the 'Cure' and 'Dark Phoenix' in the same plot was way too much for one movie to handle. Not to mention what they did to Cyclops..."

I agree this movie could have been handled better, no?

"Assassin's Creed"

Assassin's Creed
IMDb | IMDb

"Honestly, the Assassin's Creed movie. I think the first one could be remade into a decent movie, but that's a separate point. Saw the trailer, and saw they went with the Inquisition. Alright, hasn't been done before. But I've seen what happened to Golden Compass, for instance. The movie was bad, the game was even worse. I worried that the things that make the games good (to me) wouldn't translate. So I went with very low expectations. I was still disappointed. It made almost no sense, there was little sense of progressing plot, and most of the combat wasn't convincing. Just sad, really."

It's a rare occurrence when a movie based on a video game ends up good, eh?

"Jupiter Ascending"

Jupiter Ascending
Giphy | Jupiter Ascending

"I heard about it early in production and was very excited for the new Wachowski movie. Saw a bit of the trailer and it looked amazing. I stopped watching it halfway through because I didn't understand at all what was happening and I hated just about every character."

Wowza, that doesn't sound good.

"My Sister's Keeper"

My Sister's Keeper

"I loved the book. The movie [expletive] all over it."

"I read that book and was almost frantic to find the movie when I finished it because I wanted more. Saw the stories of outrage over the ending (this was about a year ago so well after it had come out) and I never watched the movie out of spite. The ending is such a huge part of the story, I don't get how they thought it was okay to change that."

Oh, I don't know about you, but I hate when the ending gets changed for the movie.

So, what do you think of this movie list?

man saying "swing and miss."

Do you agree that these flicks didn't live up to their hype? It's such a disappointment when that happens, huh? Sometimes I scratch my head thinking, what in the heck was Hollywood thinking? Has there been a movie that really missed the mark for you?
