Although most of us would say that a relationship should be a joining of equals if we were asked, it's nonetheless true that so many of us can find ourselves in situations where one partner is putting far more effort in than the other.

These problems can involve lopsided responsibilities when it comes to housework or raising children, but extreme cases can see one partner expecting the other to handle everything for them while they sit around and play video games.

However, it seems that even the most bizarre cases of this dynamic we've seen thus far still don't compare to how little effort one husband was willing to put in when the chips were down.

Before telling her story, a mom said that her husband both has to get up early to go to work and stays up late into the night playing video games.

As she explained in a Reddit post, this means that he takes a two-hour nap as soon as he gets home from work and posted a sign on his door saying that nobody can wake him up under any circumstances.

Although he initially made exceptions for emergencies, he decided he wouldn't be much help during those anyway.

So when his family has awoken him for serious reasons, his reaction was to put a lock that nobody else can open on the bedroom door.

The mom said in a comment that this decision means his children barely see him despite living in the same house, but it recently had even more serious consequences when their three-year-old son's arm was severely burned by an oil spill during cooking.

Since the dad's phone was turned off, the mom pounded on the door so he could drive them to the hospital, but received no answer.

As she put it, "The neighbor took us to the hospital and I couldn't help feel livid the whole time."

So when the dad told her that he didn't hear her because he had his earbuds in, she blew up on him and called him reckless and neglectful for ignoring a family emergency.

All he could say to this was that the same had to be true of her for the child to get burned, which led the mom to remove the lock from his door and it's been like that ever since despite his protests.

In the woman's words, "He didn't stop complaining calling me bossy and saying that by removing the lock I've destroyed his peace and quiet and caused him sleep deprivation."

But when she asked if her reaction was rash, commenters could only wonder why she was still with this man.

As one user said, "You had to get a NEIGHBOR to drive you to the hospital and instead of being contrite and concerned when you got back he tried to blame you for an accident thousands and thousands of people have every year."

And it sounded like this policy could come back to bite the husband as well.

In the words of another person, "What if the house had caught on fire? Would you have had to try and kick down the door to get your husband's attention?"

As far as they were concerned, his pattern of behavior and total unwillingness to go to bed at a reasonable hour showed an abdication of his parental responsibilities and overall selfishness.
